Problems with verification link

When a new user register on a new site of mine (version 6.00.304) some times and in some mail-clients the link is not active, when user receive a verification mail.
1. Mail-client Lotus Notes : link is correct but not active - have to copy it, paste it into browser and run it from there to activate
2. Webmail-client: An extra character is added to the link, so that it looks like this: http://www.møllevangen.dk/register.php\?activate=c504cf04eb7d5c7009c1da20201f2ce8 - link won't work
Seems that more webmail-clients have this issue. Anything we can do about it?
And by the way the text "Welcome to ..." is hardcoded in register.php.
