Language/Encoding Problem?

I am having problems but I don't know if this is due to PHP Fusion settings or something else.
My problem is this...I use Eastern European characters on my site. For example, my name is Harambaša but if I do a search on Google for that term, it will not find "Harambaša" but it will find my PHP Fusion page if I type in "Haramba a"
The character encoding I am using is UTF-8. Should I be using something else so that these characters can be translated properly in search engines?
