Having issues with the main page layout

I'm trying to get my new install looking the way I want it to, but I can't seem to find a way to add links to infusions and so on to the main menu on the top left. Specifically, I'd like to see a direct link to the forums there, instead of just a list of the most recent posts.
Also, is it possible to modify the center panel so that it just shows the news feed, and not the latest articles and downloads?

Change start page to News or move content from news feed to index if that is all you need. It is really all about preference and / or customizing a new start page after your pref with customized codes.
