1. update your V6 database before using it for V7, how to update it ? using upgrade.php when still v6.

2. after updating your v6 database to v7, there you go. replace your v6 to v7

my site going well doing that

As most infusions are not rewritten for v7 yet, did you defuse everything you had?

Restore v6 files and v6 database. Then follow the readme strictly.

I.e. remove or disable all v6 mods, infusions and themes before finally uploading all the v7 files.

So do you upload the upgrade.php to administration first before I overwrite the files or do I overwritee the files first before I perform the upgrade?

In the readme point 2 is upgrade.php and point 4 is uploading files, so as it is a ordered list I think using upgrade.php first is the way to go ;)

This is the simplest way:

If you have already deleted your v7 site, but have a database backup, it can be pretty simple.

Download the v6.01.15 (that's right, v6) package and set it up as a fresh site with setup.php. You will now have a completely new sites with no members except yourself - don't panic, you're on track.

Now go to the administration panel. Restore your backup. If you had site images that do not come with the default package, don't upload any. Your site may have a little bit of bad looking broken imgaes, but that doesn't matter *yet*.

If you had any infusions installed, and you know all of them, add them to your infusions folder. But if you disabled them BEFORE your database backup, do not bother with uploading the infusions. Once they are uploaded to /infusions go to the administration panel -> system admin -> infusions. Now simply disable them all.

Now change the name of the theme folder that you are using (for example: /themes/Prime) to /themes/Gillette

This will make sure that you don't have any issues with the theme when upgrading.

Now replace the /administration/upgrade.php with the upgrade file included in your v7 package for your v6 to v7 database upgrade. Now upgrade your database.

Congratz, you now have your v7 database. Now back it up. If you have noticed, you still have all your members and such, but with a few errors or borken images in the administration panel. Don't worry.

Once you have your v7 database backup (make sure you can tell it from the v6, maybe put it in a different folder), you are ready to tear down your site. Delete all PHPFusion files, that's right, ALL of them.

Now setup v7 as a new installation. Use the same information for your super admin username, password, etc. Make the administration password - this doesn't matter what it is, but it has to be different than your super admin account's password.

Wahoo! You now have v7 installed, but only one member. Now go to the administration panel and restore your backup.

Congratulations - you now have converted your site to v7. Now figure out how to incorporate the infusions that you "need" on your site, or get an updated version for v7.

Now restore your images to their correct folder(s).

I ought to submit that...
