ok Hobbyman but your method only works if the pictures are set to be 100x50 but what do I do if its just linked to a picture that set to always be 100x50?

I'm not sure I understand, the pictures are 100x50 at the moment and you want to have 2 per row, therefore you'll need to resize them.
Am I missing something?
