The speed of the website has definately increased since Nick has upgraded. BUT, why was v6 slowing so much??? It was not always that slow, nor are other fusion sites as slow as this one was becoming. My current site seems about this current speed, yet I know that my visitors are not quite the quantity of this site. I am sure that impacts some. I have 1000 members and an average of 700 daily visits. I do not think activity slows it that much. So, what does?

Reasons for slow websites:
* high load
* too large database (the more items a database holds, the longer queries take)
* too many queries/too large query result groups (5 queries using good where conditions can be faster than one query joining 5 tables) (this is one thing that was improved in v7 and is still optimized)
* too many database tables (should not exceed 50 tables/database )
* Slow Server (corresponds with the above)
* remote contents
* high latency (this is for example the reason why most eurpeans will probably judge this site as "slow" as the server is in the us and there is 0,1 s delay for every http request)

I'm not sure..
The last few days my www.uwkabaal.com site is running very slowly without changing anything.
I've noticed that on sertain pages where the right colum is disabled it's loading much faster.
After i disabled the panels on the right side one by one i can't find the cause of this,i haven't added any extra images either that can slow done the site.
It will remain a mistery i'm affraid :|

a suggestion to the dev team for the polling in forum.. i wasnt logged in, but with the poll being the way it was i thought i could vote.. so i clicked on one of them. but when i tried hitting the vote button.. it wouldnt go.. it would make more sense to have that button say, members only poll. then when login they can vote

Too large databases??? Too many tables??? I may soon be in trouble then. I have created my own scripting for results, schedules and standings for a youth soccer league and have exceeded your noted max of 50 tables. Uh, oh!

BTW: I was torn on my vote. I am 50/50 on wheather Shoutbox is there. Because I like the nonsence; rediculously, lazy indiviiduals that do not read the rules; and then being the smart-a** that likes to annoy them, it was a hard choice for my vote. I was wondering how others felt about it.

An other reason can be a database that is not maintained. You should optimize the database some times. I do it each day...
