Under the comments of the news item about php-fusion.co.uk being back up, I saw several posts about speed improving. From where I am (Alabama, no jokes about our Internet going out via 2 cups and a string:D), it seems that the site is slower. But that is just my perception and I probably would not have even considered had I not seen the comments. Besides that, I'm sure that optimizing the tables helped a bit too :).

So what about the site then? According to Hostpulse speed test (http://www.hostpulse.com/hosting/networktools/pingresult.asp), the new site would rank about 23rd of their listed sites with an average ping time of 133ms. Fusion Themes ranks #2 with an average of 21ms (good score!) and Fusion Mods ranks #13, average 76ms. My own site (findingbelievers.org with LunarPages) ran 62ms but lost 1 of 5 packets :(.

Too bad the other hosting company I use does not offer a generous package like the one for the site above, cause I consistently get 10ms with it!

Please be aware that YMMV with this testing site. It has much to do with the route it takes to get to the sites from where they do the testing.

I say this host is a lot faster from whhere I'm at, south of Sweden.

The host is a lot faster? Are you sure about that? Could it be that oceans, continents, routing, and internet "pipelines" might have something to do with it?

The last time I looked, Flensburg, DE was slightly closer to Sweden than Portland, Oregon, USA is. I think that might have some small impact on the network topology involved.
