same thing happened to me but i spotted the dodgy username and email so i saw that they had the same ip address. I blacklisted the ip address and told them to email me. I did a who.is on the ip adrress and it gave me a hosting site which i cant recall atm.

Php-Fusion v6 security system - image check were been broken. And that's notified in a lot of sites. Typical bot:
IP mostly begins with 64.xxx.xx.xx (ex. 64.251.27.63),
Typical e-mail bot format - u2xx.xx.xxx**@*****.info,
and nicknames have 2 parts - name ar 5-6 chars.

That bot is mostly spaming default fusion sites comments system and collecting members e-mail addresses.
Suggestion - wait for Php-Fusion v7 security updates(or v6.01.11) with image captcha and e-mail encoding technology. These updates should solve your problems for a while, becouse, as I know, even this site e-mail encoding were bypassing by bot.

honestly, until you set your settings to Activate by administration. and able to go through the list yourself so that they cant fully register, its really the only way to go. i have it that way and over the last few weeks, iv only had 2 at most. but my site went through alot of them. i know what the email address starts with, so i just click on the name, go straight to the email to see what it starts with and delete it right away. they cant do anything to your site unless your activate the account yourself. and yes im running the lastest version as well.

My sites are low on visitors, so if any bot would spam my site I would notice.
Before i started using PHP-fusion I have read some messages on different forums about it. That's why I have set all register options to yes and use validation image. These are the basics for every registration service and I'm happy that they're in PHPFusion. Furthermore I use the security system infusion http://www.bs-fusion.de. I think that's all you need, beside deleting setup.php and chmod config.php...

I've been dealing with bots also. most of the ones I've had came from IPs belonging to theplanet.com so I ended up blacklisting all of their IP ranges (which took a couple hours).

I have had quite a few of these bots joining over the past few days on both gamer-tagged.com and neogeoforlife.com - thankfuly the mods and myself have kept an eye on it and dealt with all of them really quickly so their spam comments haven't lasted long. They are really easy to spot anyway, their names all look similar (like tommy54643 or similar) and they all have .info email addresses. Deleting them gets rid of all their posts anyway so that saves a lot of time! :)

Same thing here. IP 64.251.27.63 and an email like this u2xx.xx.xx@xxxx.info.
I don't know how it works with the IP, if it can be faked, but i tracked the IP to a servercompany in Ft. Lauderdale in Florida USA and sent them an email about it on abuse@serverpronto.com.
I have not heard from them yet though.

In the meantime i have blocked the above mentioned IP and blocked all emails ending with .info. That should hold them back a bit.

One could also have administrators approval forced upon any registrations. you cant prevent the registration, but they can not do any posting, not even comments. And the after reviewing the profile, you ban them.

One suggestion - disable image validation and set it to text validation. As I know, bot were done only to pass the image validation, so this bot shouldn't pass the text validation. Unfortunatelly there are few scripts who does it. Also as I said, Php-Fusion v7 captcha image validation technology are not bypassed by any bots till now. Hope that digi will ready v6.01.12 soon.
