Recently the company that hosts my website upgraded from Plesk 7.? to Plesk 8.2 and since the upgrade users are not able to vote, shout, put picture comments, post in the forums, or send private messages. I have contacted the hosting company and they are not helpful at all and do not seem to be able to fix the problem. I am going to switch to a new host company since my current one is obviously not very good.

My question is can anyone suggest what the problem is and how I can fix it? The site has been down for almost two weeks and I would like to get it up and running again as soon as possible.

That may not be a good idea. If you will please just go into your admin panel, go to PHP-info and copy and paste it here.

I had a hoster update to and ran into problems, so I think it has to do with the apache settings from your hoster. You can't fix it, your hoster should.

magic_quotes problem.

I have switched to a new server and the problems still remains on all three of my sites. You are able to login into the site and view everything but you can not do anything to interact with the site. For example you cannot send a PM, shout, picture comment, or use the forum.

I have tried all the above suggestions and still have the same problems. Any other thoughts on how I might be able to fix this?

Are your directories and files correctly set (CHMOD)? Check the installation procedure and verify the settings (no need to reinstall, just check cmod settings)

Yes, I have checked all the CHMOD settings and everything appears to be correct. As an ADMIN I am still able to go in and access the control panel and do pretty much anything along those lines.

I am pretty sure the problem has something to do with .htaccess but not sure how to restore that or fix it?

Do you have access to the .htaccess file?

Sometimes these files are hidden, but with an FTP program you should see your .htaccess file when you choose the option show hidden files. Or in your plesk environment you should see this in the file area. htaccess files are very delicate.

Since switching to the new server we no longer are using Plesk. I use FTP voyager and am having a hard time getting it to show me the .htaccess file. Whatever the problem is from the old server it has switched over with me and so (once I figure out how to view .htaccess in FTP voyager) I am going to retry the above suggestions with the magic quotes.

Thanks for all your answers. I really appreciate it. It has been four weeks and I am starting to wonder if I will ever be able to get the sites back up.
