Cannot add an avatar

While trying to upload a 300x300 JPG file ( 25KB ), I get the error below, and the avatar is not updated.

Do you have an estimated availability for this feature?
P.S. I honestly don't understand why a production site would undergo "live upgrades" for extended periods of time. It looks bad and it gets in the way of normal site usage.

It is what it is , an unfortunate mix of versions put us in the situation. I really should not have to say that it was not our ambition.
